Track & Field Equipment Checklist
While the 100-meter dash is probably one of the most eagerly waited
for track and field event at the Olympics, there are many events
and sports that come under this category. Buying equipment for all
the track and field events is no piece of cake.
If you were interested in any one particular sport, it would be
fairly simple. However, for the team coach or trainer to ensure
that a school, college, state or even country is equipped with all
the required equipment is quite a challenge.
Here are some of the things to look for when buying the equipment.
• Pole Vault: You will need to pick up vaulting poles, training
poles, sliding boxes, grip tape, pole protectors, pole plugs, helmets,
pole vault height measuring device, crossbars, landing pits and
cones. Related equipment includes speed training and weight training
equipment, plyo boxes, tape measure, performance indicators and
jump ramps.
• Shot Put: Shots are all the track and field training equipment
you really need. Coaches will need to make provision for circles
and toeboards, training implements and implement carriers.
• Discus: The discus throw is a popular track and field event
as well. Other than the discus itself, discus cages also need to
be bought. The discus cages need to be portable, strong, safe and
of course, competitively priced.
• Javelin: Try picking up javelins that have an aluminum shaft,
as they are more durable. Javelin carrying cases are a great idea
to ensure a longer life for your equipment.
• Hammer: Other than the hammers themselves, one also needs
to invest in other equipment. Handles, wires, gloves and the hammer
cages are some of the other things that need to be picked up.
• Long Jump / Triple Jump: The most important factor in long
and triple jumps is speed and weight training. Take off boards are
important equipment that affect the jump.
• Sprint / Hurdles: On track hurdles, steeplechase barriers,
scissor training hurdles, replacement boards and hurdle silk screening
are all required. Batons and stopwatches will also need to be bought.
Starting blocks are also a vital piece of equipment that need to
be purchased.
Given the long list of equipment that needs to be organized it
is advisable to have more than one person in charge of the same.
Two people shopping around can also cross check to ensure all the
items are there.
